Food Technology

This week for tech we rotated to a different station. We went on to food tech with Mrs Hecka, cooking fried rice with partners. My Partner was Matthew. The main ingredients in the fired rice that we used were sweet chilli sauce, soy sauce, chicken breast, carrots, roasted pepper, onions and rice. We started by cutting the onions, and grating the carrots, and cutting the chicken breasts. We also cut the roasted peppers. We then put all the cut up ingredients in the pot and started to stir it. We then added the soy sauce and the sweet chili sauce. After we finished cooking the fried rice we were washing and drying the dishes with our partner.

Duffy books in School

Today we received our Duffy books. The Duffy Books we get are given to us every term, we are given our Duffy Books to inspire a long love of reading any type of book. The books that I chose were named Spirit riding free and like an Enderman I would like to give a big thank you to Duffy Books in School for giving us our Duffy Books that I can read at anytime. we were allowed to choose four books the first two are the ones that you want, and the other two books were just if we didn't get your first two choices.  One book that I didn't get was an amulet book amulet is a book series. These books are helpful because some of the books that we could choose from could help us have more knowledge in the future. Both of the books that I chose were just for me to read for fun. Thank you again to Duffy Books in School for our amazing books. One book that I didn't get was an amulet book amulet is a book series.

Vincent Van Gogh Timeline

L.I: To create a Timeline about Vincent Van Gogh.

Made with Padlet

This week we were working collaboratively to create a timeline on padlet about the Post Impressionist by the name of Vincent Van Gogh. This Padlet timeline about Vincent Van Gogh is about the events that happened in Vincent Van Gogh's life. Vincent Van Gogh was a artist who was apart of the impressionist movement which meant that he liked to paint still life paintings that captured a moment in time. Something I found interesting was that he only sold two paintings as a art dealer.

Tech

This week for Tech we coded our Mbot to do a less complicated version of the figure 8 symbol with Mrs Ferguson. The blocks we used were the main blocks, the forever block, the if then else and custom blocks that we made, But before we could use the custom blocks we needed to put the definition block with the name of the custom block on it , and put blocks that meant what we wanted the custom block to do. This week was fun and boring because we already did the figure 8 symbol before.

Dance Class #1

L.I: To use our body to move around or dance.

This week we had our first dance session with our dance teacher Mrs Rebecca. Our theme this week was Me and my body. We started by doing a warm up we were doing star jumps and then we were hopping around in a big circle. We learnt that dancing is expressive, it includes movements, creativity and that when you are dancing you can move freely because you can't make mistakes when you dance. This was fun because we could be creative.

Life Education

This week the Life Education caravan came to our school and Nichole told us about our brain. First we watched about Kapi and how is four walls of Hauora were falling apart. We also found out that our brain thinks 70,000 thoughts everyday and that we are born with 100 billion brain cells. I didn't know about these interesting facts until we watched the video about our brain. My favourite part of talking with Nichole was talking to Harold because he made all of us laugh.

What is Science?

L.I To summarise the information.

L.I: to find the most vital ideas from the information to help us answer the question what is science.

This week for reading we have been learning about what science is. We started off with writing down what we already knew about science on sticky notes, then we watched a video to find out more. While watching the video we used the sticky notes to make notes. The video explains the areas of science, the difference between basic science and applied science. One thing we found really interesting was that you use chemistry, physics, and biology when you make a lime juice from fresh limes.

We negotiated and shared ideas to create a summary, we used the sticky notes to create sentences for the summary. Our group worked collaboratively to get these activities completed. We enjoyed doing this activity as we were able to practise negotiating and taking time to respect everybody's ideas. We have summarised our learning below.

Science is about getting knowledge from asking questions . It is divided into 3 areas: Chemistry, Physics and Biology. Science is both basic and applied, basic science using what you know. Science is either beneficial or harmful depending on how you view and use it.

Questions we want to ask:

Where can science be used?
Why is science important to our world ?
When do scientists ask questions?
