Waltzing Matilda poem

Today this week we unpacked the literary devices and language in banjo Paterson's very famous poem called Waltzing Matilda. Some of these words mean something but said in a different way than others say it, for example Swag man is a seasonal worker, Jumbuck is a sheep. The poem is telling us how hard it was years ago in Australia. The Swag man would rather jump into the water hole then spend his life in prison.

The night before christmas

‘Twas the night before Christmas when all through the house, not even the parents could hear the mouse.

The night was so dark and the moon was so shiny it was so shiny like gleaming armor.
I jumped on my bed I laid on my pillow and shut my eyes and had a dream about a billow.
Before I went to sleep I went downstairs to get the milk and cookies for a treat for the jolly fat man with the big beard that’s like a pile of snow. I went upstairs go back to dream about the present I want for christmas.

Saint nicholas came down the chimney with a smare on his face he made a big mess with the cookies and the milk. The tree was surrounded by presents circling the tree and put chocolate and lollies in the stocking’s. The jolly fat man looked me in the eye, and gave me a wink with his left eye and then the jolly fat man said no no no then he went up the chimney like a gun.

Happy Christmas to all and all a good night.
