I was still on my cutting the two sides so we can use the chisel and the mallet. I finished the part with the chisel and mallet, If you are right hand you hold the chisel in your left and the mallet in your right. And if you are left handed the mallet goes in your left hand and the chisel goes in the right hand.

Tech

Today for tech this week nearly everyone was up to cutting out our designs. Before we started cutting we measured out our piece of wood to make our design. Mr Grundy checked with a tri - square to see our wood was the right measurement and see if our pencil lines were straight to cut it perfectly. We cut out our wood using a backed saw to cut the wood with, and used a bench hook to hold the wood in place. When we finished cutting our wood we drew lines to make sure one of the woods were able to to fit to make a joint. We did this by making sure the wood is one thickness away from the end, and put one line with our pencil, next was to put the wood on the other side of the line to make it one thickness from the other line. We had to take our wood and a tri - square to Mr Grundy and if it was correct he would grab his marking gauge and carve a line in the middle of both sides of the wood. After that I cut one of the lines to were Mr Grundy carved with the marking gauge which was in the middle.

Stretching sentences

This week we played a game called 2 words in 1 minute. This game is when there are two words and you have to make sentences using the two words in 1 minute. After we did this we made a DLO were we had to explain how to stretch sentences. Stretching sentences is when you have a simple sentence then you add the 5 w's to make it a better sentence with better detail.

Term one self evaluating writing

Did you know that 100,000 sea animals die in a year from plastic bags?. Plastic bags are a reason why the animals are dying the plastic bag gets taken to the landfill were it takes 400 years to decompose, and if it doesn't decompose it can go down the drain and into the ocean. Turtles mistake the plastic bag for a jellyfish, although we can stop throwing away single use plastic bags because we can keep them for something else like gardening.

We have reusable plastic bags that people can use more than once. Turtles and other sea creatures aren't just dying because they are choking on plastic bags. The plastic bags are smothering the coral and there food source so they starve. Plastic bags are harming the environment and the sea creatures because people are not taking care of animals that live in new zealand and other countries, so we should be taking care of the ocean that the sea creatures are living in. Most sea turtles are harmed by plastic bags. More than 1 million sea turtles are harmed because of plastic bags. Sea Turtles aren’t the only sea animals that die from choking on plastic bags, Seals and Sea Lions, Seabirds, Fish, Whales and Dolphins are harmed by plastic bags a well.

We should take care of our land by getting rid of plastic and using reusable bags instead so we don’t have to harm more sea animals, And this is why we change our ways of thinking about caring for the land and the ocean.
